જે માણસ પોતાના કોઈ શ્રદ્ધાળુ ભાઈની સામે તેની પ્રશંસા કરે છે અને (પછી) તેની પીઠ પાછળ તેની નિંદા કરે છે તો તેઓ બંનેની વચ્ચેનો પવિત્ર સંબંધ તૂટી જાય છે.
Whoever praises his fellow believer to his face and backbites him behind his back breaks the sacred bond between them.
તમારામાંના દરેકનો ધર્મ તેની જીભ ઉપર એક ચમચી બનીને રહી ગયો છે, એ વ્યક્તિની જેમ કે જેણે પોતાનું કામ પૂરું કરીને તેના માલિકની ખુશી મેળવી લીધી હોય!

Preserving a good deed is harder than performing it. When asked what preserving a deed meant, he replied: A person spends wealth for the sake of God alone without partner, and it is recorded as a private deed; then he mentions it, so it is erased and recorded as a public deed; then he mentions it again, so it is erased and recorded as ostentation.
