A wealthy person will not escape one of three things: either wealth is made alluring in their eyes so they withhold it from those entitled to it, or it is made easy for them to obtain so they spend it where no one is entitled to it, or love for it fills their heart so they acquire it unlawfully.

Preserving a good deed is harder than performing it. When asked what preserving a deed meant, he replied: A person spends wealth for the sake of God alone without partner, and it is recorded as a private deed; then he mentions it, so it is erased and recorded as a public deed; then he mentions it again, so it is erased and recorded as ostentation.

Whenever a person is stingy in spending on what pleases God, he is tested by spending many times more on what displeases God.
